Baseball Coaching - The Art of Teaching Life’s Wisdom

Baseball coaching has long been a source of interest for people who play or watch this game, and why not?  The advice that a coach will give his team is advice that they take with them into a highly competitive field, where winning and losing can occur in a matter of moments.  Baseball is fast-paced, sometimes quite merciless and in the end, is quite similar to the way that we live our lives.  Baseball is a competition and we when we think about baseball training techniques it can easily be seen how they can become related to our own lives in general.

The first thing that we can recognize when we look to baseball for life advice is that baseball is not a sport where the players simply walk out on the field and do their thing.  As a matter of fact, the games that we watch are the careful culmination of hundreds of baseball drills, exercises and practices and what we are seeing is the result of hundreds of hours of refinement.  The people who play pro baseball are superb athletes, but the thing to keep in mind is that this process took some time to achieve.  Similarly, we can see that in life, everything we do is cumulative.  The time we spend practicing is the time we spend preparing, so think about how prepared you are for your goals.  If you want to be in a skilled trade, have you found a good apprenticeship program?  If you want to be an artist, have you thoroughly studied life drawing and worked with live models?  You can’t simply step onto the field with no preparation, so make sure that don’t try to do the same thing in your life!

Another thing that baseball coaches will tell learn is that a practice doesn’t have to be long to be good.  People perform their best in short bursts; this is how they best retain things in their memory, and if something is effective, it doesn’t need to be beaten into the ground.  What concepts are you familiar with that you are still practicing?  One way that people sabotage themselves is by practicing things that they are already good at.  While there is such a thing as maintenance, remember that you should not get into a rut.  Real growth occurs when we push ourselves, so make sure that you do just that, whether you are thinking physically, socially, educationally or mentally!

When you are looking at baseball, you’ll also notice that there is a strong emphasis on fair play and good conduct.  In fact, a player can be ejected from the game, and even from the season lineup if it turns out that he has behaved badly, and it is important to keep in mind that while the game is the thing, it is also important to think about how you want to play it.  Is a win that is quibbled over and bitterly debated something that you really want?  Many good coaches will soon realize that there is a good way to win and a bad one, and a bad win is often worse than a loss in terms of what it will do for a team or a players reputation as well as the attitude that it can create on the team itself.

Good baseball coaching will also tell their players that it is important to be versatile.  While you will find players who are all-stars at one particular activity, you’ll also find far more players who are more well-rounded and greatly in tune with the game as a whole.  This tends to make for a very valuable player, and you’ll find that if you can bring this versatility to your own life, you will be a great deal more comfortable and a great deal more able to deal with any eventuality.

If you are in a situation where you find yourself thinking about baseball training techniques as they relate to real life, you’ll find that you are not alone.  Take some time to really think how Baseball coaching tips can affect the way you live for the better!
